Emmy nominations, Soap saving and Hero Worshiping

“For the 11th year in a row HBO received the most nominations of any network or cable channel, largely thanks to its mini-series and made-for-television movies. It got 104 nominations, up from 101 last year.”

Okay that is my opening statement. Network TV is slowly handing the reigns over to Cable and since my area of expertise is Soaps I am concentrating on the need for soaps to move to Cable TV. I know and bless ‘Prospect Park’ for taking the leap to keeping ‘One Life to Live’ and ‘All My Children’ alive and I for one will happily follow but I do need to speak for the many viewers who can not view their favorites on the web. These dedicated soap viewers need and outlet also and it certainly is not on Network Television. I have been asking for a new soap channel for years because I have always been dissatisfied with ‘Soapnet’. They never fulfilled their promise of an “All soap Channel” when they stopped showing soaps to go the cheap route of B movies and reality television. I led an unsuccessful campaign asking Oprah to help. Big mistake, because Oprah turned out to be all for Oprah, forgetting her success was attached to the millions of soap fans who made her show this huge success. If you do not believe that just look at the failure ‘OWN’ has become because Oprah dissed the soaps.

So the campaign to bring soaps to a new home on Cable continues. For as many fans who follow their soaps to the web, there are probably twice that who will not or cannot. The coupon Campaign on Sudz.Tv is the best way I can see of getting this point across and I hope that people will put aside their negative, contentious attitudes and take the few minutes to fill out a coupon. Look, if you do not want to spend the cost of a stamp you can go to the website and just give your info and someone will send it out for you. mailto:coupons@sudz.tv . it cannot hurt and will only help.

I have just been told that I am being called a groupie and hero worshiper. Well I will agree I am a groupie, a soap groupie who will do anything to save the genre. I will follow the people who are serious and care more about the genre than their ego’s. Hero worshiper? Hell Yeah. I worship at the altar of Irna Phillips and Agnes Nixon. Of Erika Slezak and Victoria Wyndham and Martha Byrne .Of @SpinsVixenella and @delibernation of @Wubsnet and @TurboByrned. I am a hero worshiper of Silas Kain because he is the most informed, devoted and fact filled person I have ever worked with. I am also a columnist who writes about all aspects of the genre, even though I only get paid to write about ‘New York Soaps’. I write about every campaign whether i believe in ot or not because some of my readers believe in it and I want them informed. Columnist. soap advocate, writer, soap lover, fighter, groupie, hero worshiper and so much more. you can call me anything you like, You can attack me and point out my many bad points and failures but you will not stop me from recommending what I think is the BEST way to help save the soap genre.
My greatest heroes beside my husband who is fighting cancer and still working 7 days a week,my father who was 17 when he lied about his age and joined the Marines to fight in WW2 then came home to be a great Dad. My mother who worked hard everyday of her life and is still inspiring  her family. My children  who have  lovingly been there for both their dad and me through our bouts with cancer and here they are  my Hero’s Robert Kennedy, Bill Clinton, and Walt Disney. Take that as you will. But I digress

Here are the Emmy nominees.  Look at the former soap stars like Jane Krakowski (SFT), Christine Baranski (AW & AMC) and Michelle Forbes (GL) who are nominated.  Count the Cable nominations, then look at the stories nominated. Do any of them come from the soap genre? You can bet on it and you will see in the near future how great soaps like ‘Dallas’ are being produced for cable. Soaps are dead? Really. Cable does not think so and the way to make them see we are serious about a new soap channel is to send in COUPONS. I cannot say this enough and if you think I am hero worshiping the people who started this campaign you are damn right because I believe it is the answer to showing ‘The Powers That Be’ the true facts not the “facts” of their paid assassins. This campaign will have the figures to back up our claims and shoot down the networks lies. So are you really interested in saving our beloved genre? Do you want to help the viewers who cannot watch on the Internet? Do you want a new soap channel where you can view new and old soaps? Well then leave your ego’s at the door, stop the name calling and get serious. All is forgiven if you will just put all of the negative energy into something productive.
