2013 best storyline General Hospital

The best storyline for General Hospital had to be “The Nurses Ball” . It brought together many of the past characters who were all missed and was the most missed event on GH.

With music from two of it’s most talented performers Jack Wagner (Frisco) and Rick Springfield (who played himself and Noah Drake),

The beautiful, much missed Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) as the hostess with the mostess. Dance and song numbers by the cast, a sexy tango with Anna and Duke. even sexier strip number with the guys and of course, the tribute to Robin “You’re Not Alone” with Robin’s (Kimberly McCullough) picture and her husband and daughter Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer)and Patrick (Jason Thompson) all joined in a “We Are The World” with the cast joining hands together. A wonderful way to celebrate the 50th anniversary with the fund raiser for Aids in Robin’s honor.

Let us not forget that this led into many other storylines the return of Faison, Robert and Anna reuniting, Jax and Brenda returning together, Patrick and Sabrina’s falling in love and Robin’s two years of being held captive.

All in all this was the best of the past and the present and Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini have to be commended for the return of many missed characters from the past.

Of course the present cast carried it on beautifully and Jason Thompson and Finola Hughes are outstanding. Anthony Geary,Jane Elliot, Leslie Charleson, Kelly Monaco and Maurice Benard are equally wonderful.

2013 best storyline Days Of Our Lives

COFFEE,SOAPS AND ME

Days of Our Lives has been a true revelation this year and well deserving of it’s Daytime Emmy win.

With a storyline like “The Taking of Father Eric” how could they miss grabbing everyone’s attention. Eileen Davidson as the villainous Kristen DeMira and the hunkalicious Greg Vaughan as the devout Father Eric made for one very sick, but hot story. The video of Kristen seducing a drugged Eric was quite sensational and the drug made the padre one hot lover. Okay, it is twisted and it was so deranged and so disgusting that we all felt we had to go to confession after seeing it. Marlena behind the curtain in church revealing the video to all the wedding guests was an added bonus.

Eileen is such an extraordinary talent and she carries off her many persona’s so realistically that we feel we have been on the teacups ride at Disneyworld after watching her performances. From ardent lover to scheming bitch to crazy daughter to a meek benefactress she is one amazingly, glorious actress.Could an Emmy be in ED’s future?

Greg Vaughan, whether he is drug addicted Lucky Spencer or devout and dedicated Father Eric is a wonder to watch. He exudes masculinity and yet can play a holy man with such tenderness and saintliness. Somehow we will not mind if he is defrocked.

Lets not forget Arianne Zucker who has played Nicole so well over many rough roads and still is a likeable character we all cheer for, played her heart out over this long storyline. Loving Father Eric in secret yet working with him and watching over him has made her a true heroine and then to be hurt so badly by his accusation that she raped him made her so vulnerable we wanted to hug her and tell her it would be alright. I thought she should have won an Emmy last year. She certainly is Emmy worthy this year.

Then in this same soap we have a hilarious “ <a href="http:// “>Drugged Bookclub “ storyline with the gifted actresses of Days acting their hearts out as they consume donuts laced with marijuana. What a fun day in the midst of mayhem and murder. Great all around storytelling.

2013 best storyline The Young and the Restless

December 29, 2013
With the coming of the New Year we think back to our favorite soaps and try to find the best of each one. The storyline that was either very successful or downright bad.

I know there was a hearty dissent towards the Delia storyline on Y&R, but everyone must admit that it lead to Emmy worthy performances from many of the cast involved.

Billy Miller, as Billy Abbott is outstanding as the father who cannot forget his little girl. He is superb in portraying a man haunted by his daughters death and the fact that the driver has not been found. Billy will be missed and he will be impossible to replace.

Michael Muhney who as Adam Newman was the driver. He is haunted by the fact that he did not realize he hit Delia, thinking he just swerved to avoid hitting her dog. Then not coming forward to admit it has led him to some serious nightmares. Michael is so incredibly talented and has played this man with a conscience, thought to be a monster, in such an insightful and deeply felt way that those who disliked him have come to like Adam in all of his carnations. MM will surely be missed and is another irreplaceable actor.

Elizabeth Hendrickson has played Chloe, Delia’s mother, so incredibly real you would think she had live this herself. She has run the gamut of emotions from denial to anger to deep sorrow so well we felt each emotion right along with her. She is another Emmy contender and should win.

Amelia Heinle as Billy’s wife Victoria is also such a gifted actress she has made us feel her heartbreak at the loss of not only her stepdaughter, but also the husband she adores. As he falls deeper into despair she must hold her family together and try to understand his loss.

Peter Bergman, Billy’s big brother Jack Abbott, has been the rock the family needed to get through this tragedy. He is quietly there for his brother, trying to keep him from making life changing mistakes. In this as any other storylines he has been involved in this year he is eminently Emmy worthy.

Greg Rikkart as Kevin, chloe’s ex husband and Delia’s stepdad he has been wonderful in being there for Chloe as she grieves, while grieving himself. What a great actor he is as he fights to find the driver who killed Delia and comforting the wounded Chloe. Greg gives 100 % in every scene.

Jess Walton who plays Jill is the essence of a wounded soul. As she grapples with the loss of Katherine who she feels betrayed by, she now must deal with the loss of her granddaughter while trying to comfort her son and Chloe. She is also dealing with a mystery of her own and a takeover of Newman Enterprises. This magnificent actress is the new matriarch of Y&R and an Emmy worthy actress at any time.

With complete understanding of the fans who were hurt by this storyline we have to realize that this is a piece of life too many people have had to deal with and Y&R is the best at delivering storylines that are true to life. The performances brought about by this storyline were exceptional and gave these actors the opportunity to show their unbelievable talents

Michael Muhney debate over his firing heats up

The firing of Michael Muhney, who played Adam Newman on Y&R has caused great consternation between cast members and most importantly the fans. The whole truth has not been revealed on why he was let go, but castmates claim it was not Jill Farren Phelps fault though fans are quick to blame her.

Michael alluded to it being his fault in his statement in my last column on him. “Part of me feels this is because I’ve always been outspoken, and sometimes I’ve been too outspoken. Sometimes I’ve walked around with a big backpack full of hubris. That is entirely on me. CBS, Sony, and Jill Phelps are not to blame for that.” So what could this disastrous action have been?

To the fans nothing Mr Muhney could have done could rate this action, He is a great actor and has made Adam Newman his own. Fans are planning boycotts of CBS and sending out petitions to have him rehired.

Though these may be drastic actions, fans feel very strongly about their beloved characters and the actors who play them. When you have the likes of Michelle Stafford, Billy Miller and Michael Muhney gone from the show they helped keep number one, fans of Y&R start to feel uncomfortable and unhappy about these monumental losses.

Cast member Sharon Case went so far as to make a lovely video of her feelings about the loss. Melody Thomas Scott tweeted her feelings “Not my place 2 reveal but the arrogance of some ppl who have NO knowledge of the situation is astonishing. THE SHOW IS NOT 2 BLAME. ANY actor would’ve been fired under these circumstances. Terrible loss 2 the show & it sickens me that this has happened. Jill is completely innocent in this. So is the show, Sony, CBS, etc. Tragic situation.” and Michael Logan of TV Guide tweeted: “If/when the REAL Muhney story comes out, U won’t B blaming ANYONE at @YandR_CBS @Sony or @CBSDaytime.” DougDavidson tweeted: “Honestly, JPF’s is not to blame. She is terrific. Today’s events don’t reflect her leadership. Trust me, there is more to the story. The Young and the Restless is a team sport. Please know we love you guys and we will continue to bring you the best show we can. I’ve got at least 20 castmates that vow the same pledge.”

The truth, the whole truth must come out so fans can decide who was to blame in this horrible decision. Michael Muhney was too important to the show and was excelling in his part in this incredibly sad and horrific storyline.

Hopefully the truth will come out sooner than later and an end can be put to the unrest everyone feels about the talented Mr Michael Muhney.I think that Michael is such a fantastic actor, one of the best…hopefully Michael can find a Job on a Night time TV show…I will be looking forward to see him soon!

Here are some comments from my readers
Carolyn
So sad about Michael’s firing. Such a good actor. He is an actor with a family and he has been
treated very poorly. Hope he will find work soon. He has a following so many of us will be looking for him to appear on another show.

Karen: We are having a Block Y&R day Jan 31st. DON’T WATCH, DON’T DVR, DON’T GO TO CBS.COM OR YOUTUBE. JUST MISS 1 DAY OF Y&R. Should speak volumes on how we feel about the loss of MM & BM, MS this past year. JFP is killing our show. Let’s show CBS we care!

Diane: http://www.gopetition.com/peti…

Katrina: I just deleted The Young and the Restless from my daily recording on the DVR. First Michelle Stafford and now Michael Muhney. I will no longer watch this sad soap opera. No one can replace Michelle or Michael.

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year.

This past Thursday Billy Miller filmed his last scenes on The Young and the Restless. His co workers and fans all saddened by his exit have had to say goodbye to the two time Daytime Emmy Winner.
In a Soap Opera Digest interview when asked why he is leaving Miller said: “I was made a generous offer to stay on Y&R. It was definitely a chance to gain veteran actor status. To pass was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I was caught between a rock and a hard place. This is a great role to play. It afforded me a unique lifestyle. However, I realized if I took that contract I would never know what else is out there. In the past we were able to venture out of the Y&R world; now it seems there is no longer that flexibility for me.”
Billy has also alluded later in the interview on the contract negotiations: “I can say that somewhere within the negotiation, it just felt like it was time to move on.”

On Thursday evening, Billy’s long time co-star Amelia Heinle (Victoria) and Laura Walsh (production, Y&R) threw a goodbye party for Billy, attended by many of his cast mates! Jessica Collin’s Twitter account, showed Billy and his castmates Jessica Collins (Avery), Greg Rikaart (Kevin), and Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea). Jessica stated “That’s a wrap for my dear friend #BillyMiller at #YR. We will miss you. XoJ @gregrikaart @mclaireegan” Y&R icon, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) yesterday also shared his sentiments on saying goodbye to “Billy boy”, when he tweeted in part: “Said farewell to Billy Miller last night! Great guy and actor!!” Goodbye Billy, your fans will miss you and follow you to your next destination.
Watch video goodbye to Billy

Michael Muhney let go from Y&R. What?

I have to say I am still stunned by the news that Jill Farren Phelps has let the magnificent actor Michael Muhney go. I have waited a whole day because knowing Mr.Muhney’s sense of humor I hoped it was all a big joke. It has to be a joke. Why would anyone who wants the show to stay at number one , let him go? He has carried this storyline and others with his incredible talent and after losing Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller and sorrowfully Jeanne Cooper, three of the other incredibly gifted actors on the show, with the best line up, why would this decision be made? Can she have such a huge ego that she thinks she can tear apart the intricately woven cast of talented actors and not feel the wrath of the fans? Does she care? Absolutely not!

This is a huge loss and why TPTB are not stepping in and stopping another blood bath is a mystery to me. JFP has done her worst on Another World, One Life to Live, Santa Barbara, Guiding Light and even General Hospital. So how does she mesmerize people into thinking she can do better next time?

Fans of Y&R are ranting as well they should, but we all know this great show will go on as it has for forty years. Twenty five of them consecutively at number one and though many say they will never watch again most will stay with the show they have loved for forty, twenty, ten years and yes miss the actors who have left, but there are still many great actors who will keep this show number one for many years to come.

In her defense, she has brought three exceptional actors to the show when Hollywood Heights finished it’s run. Robert Adamson who plays Noah Newman, Hunter Haley King who took over the role of Summer Newman and Melissa Ordway who replaced Emme Rylan as Abby Newman have all done very well in their new roles. Replacing Michael Muhney will not be as easy and fans will take a long time accepting anyone else in a role MM made his own.

This decision must have shocked Mr. Muhney who is up for a Daytime Emmy for his role. Muhney took to Twitter to let his many fans know: “I’m so sorry. It breaks my heart to say this, but I was just let go from Y&R. My last day on set is this Thursday. My last air date will be Jan 30th. I’m going to take some private time with my wife & kids, as I am most concerned for their well-being. I have 3 final episodes to film, and because they are my last, I will be giving it everything I have. More details will follow. #xoxoxo”. Could this tweet be a part of JFP’s epitaph? One could only hope!

All of the best to Michael Muhney who will have no problem finding work in soaps and prime time. He is that gifted.

Best of Luck Michael the love of your fans will follow wherever you land!

This Monday night on TVGN one of the soaps biggest supporters, Jim Romanovich will have his documentary “Who Shot the Daytime Soap” shown at 8./7, with a sneak preview earlier the same day at 2/1c .

Mr. Romanovich helmed the Daytime Emmy’s for three years from 2009 through 2011 and is a big part of the Hollywood Christmas Parade which always has many soap actors as part of this wonderful Holiday event. He is also President of Worldwide Media at Associated Television International.

In this documentary Jim interviewed 40 soap vets including SusanLucci and Alicia Minshew (All My Children), Tristan Rogers, Jacklyn Zeman, William deVry, Sean Kanan and Robin Mattson (General Hospital), Linda Dano (Another World), Judi Evans and Wally Kurth (Days of Our Lives), Crystal Chappell (Venice), Kristoff St. John (The Young and the Restless) and Kathryn Leigh Scott (Dark Shadows). You’ll also hear from ex-soap execs Wendy Riche (GH), Julie Carruthers (AMC) and Maria Arena Bell (Y&R).

Asked his goal he responded to Michael Logan of TV Guide who interviewed him “ The networks have to keep up the enthusiasm they’re now showing for their soaps. They have to embrace these shows and protect them. They are doing that beautifully over at CBS right now, under [daytime chief] Angelica McDaniel. There is a lot of renewed interest at ABC for GH. And Days at NBC! Talk about the Phoenix rising from the ashes…no pun intended! “

When asked about the ‘noirish’ feel to the show Jim explained. “We made a conscious effort to give it a real retro feel. The graphics are very Jimmy Cagney gangster-style. The music is very Peter Gunn. The reason for that is that there was not a single shooter. The soaps were shot at in a tommy-gun assault,”

Every true soap fan should tune in to this soap affirming show and see just how the soaps, Guiding Light, As The World Turns, All My Children and One Life To Live were so quickly shot down and why the soaps are experiencing such a resurgence in popularity.

Read the whole interview here and watch the teaser here.

Thank you Mr. Romanovich for your constant support of the soaps and Michael Logan who is the best at bringing soap stories to light.
